Opinions: Staffer shares tips for a ‘Super’ Bowl party

It is approaching the end of the National Football League’s season, which means it is time to prepare for the best Super Bowl party ever. There are many elements to a great Super Bowl party, such as food, decorations, friendly betting, people and outfits.

There are many different types of food that are necessary at Super Bowl parties, like snacks and appetizers. Some snacks you will definitely need are chips and dip, cheese puffs, popcorn and cheese and crackers. A veggie tray is optional, but definitely not a necessity, when it comes to watching football. Some good appetizers include wings, mozzarella sticks, lil’ smokies, pizza rolls, popcorn shrimp and French fries. Food like this will make your party an automatic hit.

Now that you have the food ready to go, it is time to start decorating. Decorating for a Super Bowl party is not too hard. You need to make sure that you have a decent-sized television so that everyone can see the game, and you need to make sure it works. I have witnessed parties in which the cable shuts off. Don’t be that person. Another necessity is a large couch and many folding chairs, as you need to keep your guests comfortable, even if their team is losing. There are not a lot of actual decorations that you need — just a lot of space.

One thing that has lasted as long as professional sports has is betting, especially on the Super Bowl. There are many things you can make friendly bets on, such as who the winner is, who the Most Valuable Player will be, the longest field goal and even what the first commercial will be. If you do end up making bets, always make sure to go with your gut instinct. Remember, this is only friendly betting, so there is no need to get into it too much; it is just a game.

When inviting people, make sure you invite your closest friends and family, and make sure they are not having a party at the same time. After you invite them, invite all your classmates and coworkers; the more, the merrier, as they say. One thing you need to do before you invite all these people, though, is tell them to bring food, as you can never have too much food.

Dress for a Super Bowl party can vary, depending on your age and how dedicated you are to football. If you are a middle-aged man, for example, you could wear your grease-covered Peyton Manning jersey you got in ‘99 for your 16th birthday. If you are just there for the party, dress decently; there no worries on how well you dress, but just have fun.

The Super Bowl can be a fun time if you do it right, and if you do all these things, you will have the best party around.
