As summer is getting closer, people are making more and more plans. Some are busy interviewing for jobs, some are trying out for summer sports teams and some are planning their dream senior getaway trip.
A few students have had their jobs for several years and are going to work again this summer, while others are just now starting their jobs.
Sophomore Sam Sherwood, who will be working at Hy-Vee, said, “I am really excited, and by this summer, I will be promoted! It is going to be a lot of fun.”
Sherwood also said that, at the end of the summer, she is going on a trip to Orlando, Fla.
“We are going to Disney World, Universal Studios and the beach,” Sherwood said. “I am looking forward to the new ride that is at Disney World.”
Other people who are going on trips right at the start of summer include seniors Alexis Engelken, Mariah Kinderknecht and Dakota Nelson, who, along with two parents, are going to visit England. They will be staying in London for a few days, then go to Scotland and Wales, and they will just be seeing the sights.
“We are leaving right after state softball, so May 30 is when our flight leaves, and we will get back June 12,” Engelken said. “There is a dinner in Cardiff that we are gonna go to, which is in Wales. It will be a formal dinner. Oh, and the accents, I am definitely excited about that!”
Finally, some students are playing summer sports. Senior Kayla Boltz said she is playing softball on a team called Moxie with sophomores Brynn Hammett, Jessica Kildow, Olivia Lee and Jayden Weers, junior Cassidy Cheever and senior Alexis Wilson. They will be playing a lot of tournaments in Kansas City, one tournament in Nebraska and some in Topeka and Wichita.
Boltz said, “I played summer ball since I was eight, and it has always just been my vacation time.”
