A new Mexican restaurant hit the streets of Manhattan at the end of the month. Qdoba Mexican Grill opened in late October at 320 N. 3rd St., near Best Buy and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Qdoba is a sit-down restaurant, as well as a take-out restaurant. It is often compared to Chipotle, which Manhattan has in Aggieville. Both restaurants have similar menus, and both make your food as you order in an assembly line. First, you choose the dish, like a burrito or a bowl, then you choose your meat, then rice and beans, then type of salsa, and finally your toppings, such as cheese, lettuce and more. I have eaten at both Chipotle and Qdoba, and I really do not like one over the other since I think they are both delicious. Qdoba has one item over Chipotle, and that is the most amazing queso ever.
Both restaurants are close in the prices and in the time it takes to get your food. When I went Qdoba in Topeka, I had a great experience. They made my burrito just how I asked with no beans and with shredded beef, white rice, cheese, lettuce, medium salsa, corn salsa and queso, and they had it to me quick so I could be on my way, since I ordered it as take out. The server making my burrito was very friendly, and the food was excellent. I really have no complaints about the restaurant, so I would expect the same from the new restaurant opening in Manhattan.
I think Qdoba is a great addition to Manhattan, and it is in a great location for people who do not want to fight the traffic in Aggieville. Thus, I think Qdoba will add a lot of competition for Chipotle.
