Winter Homecoming is a rich tradition at Rock Creek, and that tradition will continue on Jan. 31, 2014.
Last year was a very special year for Winter Homecoming, with the student body nominating and crowning then-senior Taylor Newman, who has Down Syndrome, as their Winter Homecoming queen. The word spread of this special honor and made it to many local and some national news stations.
“This year, the tentative voting date will be Jan. 15, with the candidates being announced on Jan. 17,” junior Student Council president Jacy Johnston said.
The winners will be announced at halftime of the boys varsity basketball game on Jan. 31. After the game, there will be a dance in the school cafeteria. It will last from after the game until midnight. The dance will offer a DJ, plus snacks and drinks. There will be a price of admission to get into the dance.
“The dance will be done by Complete Music, and Stuco is still discussing the admission price,” Johnston said.
Winter Homecoming is getting very close, and this year is shaping up to be just as magical as past years.
“I am very excited for Winter Homecoming,” senior Ryan Zimmerman said. “I am hoping for an exciting game, and the dance is always exciting.”
