Both the Rock Creek band and choir had a busy March. Both groups had a concert, plus the band went to Orlando, Fla., to Disney World on March 16 and returned March 21.
On March 14, the band and the choir gathered together for their last performance together at Rock Creek for this school year. Songs played by the band featured “Encanto,” “Vision Quest,” and “To the Colors.”
“We played the same songs at the winter concert as we did at Disney,” band director Scott Bradley said. “Both went very well.”
For the choir, they performed several different songs, which included “Bonzorno Madonna” and “Hope is a Thing With Feathers.”
“It’s sad that I only have the pop concert left, but I plan on coming back next year to support my choir friends still at Rock Creek,” senior Kennedy Brown said.
The band did not have much of a break, as they took a 26-hour drive to Disney World on March 16. On March 18, the band “participated in a sight reading clinic culminating and providing the soundtrack for part of the ‘Lion King’ on a DVD,” according to Bradley. The band then performed these same songs in Downtown Disney on March 20.
“It was fine [going to Disney], but I was really homesick,” junior Heather Gardner said.
The trip to Disney World featured more than recording and playing a concert. Students were also able to tour the park and experience all that Disney World had to offer.
“The trip wasn’t all work, so that was great,” Gardner said.
Yet, it was not simply the band members having a good time; parents and audience members did, as well.
“So many parents and families were there to support us, and the audience was enthusiastic,” Bradley said.
