Features: Vaughn joins Rock Creek staff as FACS teacher

Kjerstine Vaughn is new to Rock Creek Junior/Senior High School as the Family and Consumer Science teacher.

Prior to coming to Rock Creek, she taught at Council Grove. Before teaching, she had went to Snow College and then to Kansas State University. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Human Ecology and is certified to teach family consumer science.

She did not always want to be a FACS teacher, though; she wanted to be in radio production. She was then on the radio for two hours during her first semester of college and did not like it.

In addition to teaching the FACS classes, Vaughn sponsors junior high cheer, FCCLA and junior high volleyball. Vaughn said she enjoys working at Rock Creek, but she would like to have windows in her room.

Even though she teaches healthy eating habits, Vaughn said, “I do not eat as healthy as I should.”

Junior Clarissa Childress and sophomore Ashton Umscheid said they enjoy her teaching style.

“She understands us better because she’s younger,” Childress said, while Umscheid said, “She is not a hard teacher because she makes the classes fun.”
