Rock Creek boys basketball head coach Jim Johnston and senior player KJ Dobbins give their opinions about the upcoming season, which opens on Dec. 2 against Clay Center at home.

1.  How do you expect the upcoming season to go?

Johnston – “We have the potential to be very good, and we have worked very hard in the summer, but so have the other MEL teams.”

Dobbins – “A solid regular season and a good run in playoffs.”

2.  Who are this year’s leaders and or key players for the team?

Johnston – “Several… senior Dillon Johnston and senior Logan Miner are two returning starters, but there are so many to name that the list would be too long. I’ll just say we have great depth.”

Dobbins – “Probably all of the seniors.”

3.  What MEL team is going to be the toughest opponent for the team this year?

Johnston – “Riley County is picked to win the league right up there with us, and Wabaunsee has good experienced players.”

Dobbins -“Riley County. It’ll be a tough game, but I think we can win.”

4.  What are your team goals this season?

Johnston – “Play good defense. Win state.”

Dobbins – “Win league and play in Hutchinson [for state].”

5.  What needs improved before the first game?

Johnston – “Conditioning and just getting out of the football feeling and getting into basketball.”

Dobbins – “I really don’t know — probably conditioning and communication.”
